Team India is on winning streak as Kohli’s side being unbeaten in 19 consecutive tests, they would surely like to continue this glorious feat and break still many more records.
Team India has $1 Million Prize awaiting for it in the line, India can win this prize money from the ICC if they manage to win even a single test match against the Aussies in the upcoming 4 Test Match Series starting from 23rd February. The amount is the reward for the team for retaining the number one rankings in Test cricket. It seems that the Kohli Boys wouldn’t find it much difficult to spare a single win & by looking Team India’s past performances in the the recent couple of months it won’t be difficult to say that India can clean sweep the Aussians in Home.
India currently have 121 points while Australia have 109 points. If the Aussies defeat India by 4-0 then they would be crowned with the No.1 Spot, In case Australia wins by 2-0 or by 3-1 still India would remain at the top of the rankings. So the Kohli’s Boys just need to win a single test match or draw at-least 2 matches. The second-ranked Australia have been inconsistent in the near past. They lost 3-0 to Sri Lanka the last time they visited the sub-continent. So, the task is pretty much for the Aussies Skipper Steven Smith to lead the team from the frontfoot and take along all boys as whole and beat India. The four-Test series between India and Australia kick-starts on February 23, with Pune hosting the first Test. Bengaluru, Ranchi and Dharamsala are the other venues.
“In a decision to better reward the best performing Test teams, the Board has doubled the prize money for sides that top the ICC Test Championship table each year at the 1 April cut-off date. As a result, the number-one ranked Test team on 1 April 2016 will receive USD 1 million, up from USD 500,000 in 2015.”
ICC awarded ‘ICC Test Mace’ to skipper Virat Kohli for leading his team to the top of the Test Team Rankings. The mace was presented by former India captain and ICC Cricket Hall of Fame Sunil Gavaskar at a ceremony following the team’s sublime 321 run win against New Zealand in Indore that also ensured a 3-0 whitewash – first for Virat Kohli-led side.
“This prize money is in addition to the Test Cricket Fund of $70 Million, which the ICC Board introduced last year to help ensure Test playing sides are able to sustain a home programme of Test cricket through to 2023. “The fund will be available from next year to all Test Members except the Board of Control for Cricket in India, Cricket Australia and the England and Wales Cricket Board,” the release further stated.
