India vs Australia 1st Test, Day 1 – Review

A dust bowl of a pitch, Renshaw retiring with an upset stomach, Umesh’s fiery bowling, Saha’s Superman catch and a fearless innings from Mitchell Starc. Drama unfolded at the Sahara Stadium, Pune as the first day of the Border-Gavaskar series went underway.

Winning the toss, the Australian skipper, Steven Smith, decided to bat first on a seventh-day pitch. Yes! That’s right. A dust bowl of a wicket, the ball turning square in the first session itself. And the spinners came to work early.

David Warner got out before adding 82 runs for the first wicket, with Matt Renshaw, who too went to dug-out with an upset stomach. And before lunch, there were two new batsmen at the crease.

Smith and Handscomb tried to add some runs, after Shaun Marsh got out, but the wicket of Steve Smith, came to be the downfall of Australia. In a flurry of wickets, Australia were soon reduced to 205-9.

A fiery spell from Umesh Yadav, saw him take 4 wickets. Mitchell Starc then got going, hitting all sorts of shots to get the visitors to 256/9 at the end of the day.

Team India will soon look to get Starc’s wicket in the morning and come out to bat fresh. A cracker of a day awaits.
