If Arsene Wenger wants to leave Arsenal, then his team have given him a perfect chance to do so in a season that has seen their more than 15 years of Champions League presence come to an end. Arsenal defeated Chelsea by 2 goals to 1 and completely outplayed the Blues at Wembley.
The Gunners were off to a perfect start thanks to Alexis Sanchez who put them ahead just after 4 mins as his goal was initially ruled out for offside but given later as he came from deep with Welbeck in an offside position. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte later complained of a handball by Sanchez but referee though otherwise. Arsenal was unlucky not to extend their lead as they completely as they completely dominated the first half with Danny Welbeck hitting the post and rebound guided off target by Aaron Ramsey.
The second half was a similar story as Ozil and Ramsey completely outplayed Kante and co and when Victor Moses was sent off after diving in the penalty area it seemed Chelsea were well and truly out but as they say it ain’t over until the final whistle and so it proved when Diego Costa’s deflected shot made it all square after 76 mins but Arsene Wenger had one last trick up his sleeve. Substitute Olivier Giroud came in and straight away provided an inch-perfect cross for Aaron Ramsey to restore Arsenal’s advantage in the 79th minute.
This result means that these two clubs will also face each other in the FA Community Shield before the beginning of next season.
