What an epic time for this unfortunate incident to occur which is running parallel to the proceedings of the participation of the National Cricket Team Of India in the ongoing Champions Trophy in the England.
Cricket world would not be astonished to see the alleged fallout and rift between the aggressive Kohli and the no-nonsense and no-bullshit guy Kumble who took the responsibility of the Indian Team on his shoulders after Shashtri’s tenure.
Guha resigned from the BCCI panel yesterday, citing personal reasons for the same. He tendered his resignation on 28th May to Rai, the COA and the BCCI.
The speculations and allegations all started with the forceful inclusion of Kuldeep Yadav in the playing XI against Australia in the 4th Test Match this year, the team also seems to have complaint regarding the strict regime followed and practiced upon players by the veteran leg-spinner and coach Kumble. In an another revelation, former BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke had sparked off some signs expressing that Kohli was not in favor of Kumble being appointed as the head coach from the beginning itself.
“There had been some murmurs about this (Kumble-Kohli rift) even at the time of Mr Kumble’s appointment. At that time, our president (Anurag Thakur) had taken the initiative and had a detailed discussion with both parties, and it was decided that since the cricket committee (CAC) had recommended Mr. Kumble as the best option, we should go ahead with that. Therefore, I think the real reason for a one-year contract was that we would work and evolve, and see how this went, so as to keep the options open at a future date,” Shirke told The Indian Express.
“Let us say he (Kohli) had his own views about it. And like I said, our president, Mr. Thakur, took the initiative and told him that this was the unanimous choice of the cricket committee and we would have to abide by their recommendation and Kohli should accept it,” he added. Vinod Rai, head of the Supreme Court appointed CoA, will now approach Kumble in the hopes of persuading him to stay on.
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly will be meeting the Indian team members. Their discussion will centre around the issues that they are apparently facing with Kumble as the head coach.
