Real Madrid thrashed Barcelona 5-1 on aggregate to claim their second trophy of the season after having won the Uefa Super Cup by beating Manchester United earlier this month.
Real Madrid looked the better team for entire 180 mins with Lionel Messi looking like a lone warrior in a team of underperforming players leading to even Gerard Pique admitting that his team is inferior to Madrid right now. Barcelona has nothing going their way with no quality reinforcements yet at their disposal and departure of Neymar has left everything completely on Messi’s shoulders as Suarez and Iniesta continue to underperform. The Catalans need to land either Coutinho or Dembele if not both to stand any chance of a silverware in the coming season.
For Real Madrid, the future looks brighter than ever as they are finally way ahead of their terribly mismanaged rivals both tactically and in terms of squad depth. Zidane has been brilliant as ever and was always a step ahead of Valverde with Barca’s five man midfield torn apart by Modric, Kovacic, Kroos and Casemiro. But the biggest hero of these two Clasicos was Marco Asensio who scored two absolute screamers and proved once again why he is the hottest young prospect in world football and why Barca can never be forgiven for missing out on signing him for a mere sum of 4.5 million Euros.
This Clasico has clearly indicated the difference in world’s top two clubs with Barca clearly needing nothing short of a miracle to overpower Madrid for at least a few seasons to follow, right now they need to focus on putting together a team that can at least put up a fight against their biggest rivals.
