Argentina vs Uruguay-Review

A goalless draw between the two teams was played in a crucial world cup qualifier last night in estadio centenario, Uruguay.

Coming into the match with  disappointed loss in last qualifiers,both teams played a dull affair, neither would be satisfied of a draw.

With this draw the group has become more complicated ,only 5 points seperates 2nd and 7th placed teams.With Colombia earning a draw against Venezuela and Chile losing to Paraguay,Brazil’s  2-0 victory in match against Ecuador,made them current leader of group Uruguay sits in third place with 24 points, while Argentina remains in fifth at 23 points. . The fifth-place team also has a chance to qualify through a play-offs.

The main highlight of the match is Suarez’s knee injury in 83rd minute which forced him to leave the match,He had been cleared to return from the injury earlier on Thursday.

Argentina dominated the possession, but they failed to create legitimate chances in the final third.Jorge Sampaoli’s first important match in charge of Argentina saw him go with three at the back and a trio in attack of Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala and Mauro Icardi, but they failed to play upto expectations.The game produced only 5 shots on target despite the attacking talent in both sides.

The first chance of the match came in 37th minute for Uruguay, other than that chance first half was pretty dull.

The second half either was lack of offensive display,with best chance came from a set piece to agentina’s ‘Little Maestro’ Lionel Messi.

As the 2nd half is progressing towards end both teams became more conservative,as they seemingly realized one point was better than nothing.Argentina controlled possession for 80 percent of the match, but it came to nothing.

Now Argentina has to work hard to qualify directly into the world cup 2018,as they are currently sitting on 5th position and only top 4 teams will qualify directly, Uruguay will play their next  game against Paraguay, while Argentina will face Venezuela at home and will try hard to win it.
