This was the fifth and the final one day of the series between India and Sri Lanka. Result of this match did not affected the outcome of the series. Kohli and company were ready to whitewash the Lankan’s first time on their home ground. The match started with Sri Lanka winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Similar to the previous matches Sri Lanka were struggling from the beginning of the play. As the result Sri Lanka lost their first wicket on just 14 runs and the trend of losing wickets continued and Sri Lanka lost their 3 wickets at just a score of 63 runs. Then came in handy the experience of Lahiru Thirimane and in form Angelo Mathews. Both of them scored 50+ runs and their partnership of 122 runs led Sri Lanka to come back in the game. Sri Lanka lost its 4th wicket on 185 run after Lahiru thirimane was bowled out on 67 run by Bhuvneswar kumar and after that Sri Lanka struggled and lost wickets on regular interval of time and managed to get only 238 runs on board.
Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane started the Indian chase. But India lost their opening pair too early. But then came thunder of in form captain Kohli who control the innings with two middle order batsman Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav. Jadhav’s half century and Virat Kohli’s 30th century (equals Ricky Ponting 30 centuries record and becomes the second batsmen after Sachin on the list of scoring max century in ODI’s) lead the Indian squad to easy chase of 238 runs and whitewashing the Lankan’s. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was declared player of the match for taking 5 wickets and Jasprit Bumrah player of the series for taking highest number of wickets in the series.
Hopefully, India will continue their form in one t-20 left against Sri Lanka.
