After a disappointing run in the qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, it all came down to one last match for Argentina. Argentina, who stood at 6th position, prior to today’s match, with 25 points from their 17 games, needed a victory and results from other matches for them to qualify.
All hope seemed lost for the South American nation, when they were shocked by an early goal from Ibbara in the first minute of the match. But then 30-year old, Messi came to the rescue scoring two goals inside 20 minutes. It didn’t take him long before he scored the third goal of the match, after the hour-mark, registering yet another hattrick for his team.
With this win, Argentina have now clinched the third spot in the standings and have qualified ahead of Chile and Peru. All due to one man- Lionel Messi.
