New Zealand will begin their limited overs tour of India with a three-match ODI series. The first match of the series will be played today at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
At the Wankhede Stadium, the side batting first has won more often than the side fielding first. So, toss will also play a key role in today game. India recently beat Australia 4-1 at home in five-game ODI series. India also beat West Indies and Sri Lanka this year and became the number one team in ODIs ranking. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli are the pillars of the Indian batting lineup. So most of the runs can be expected to come from bats of these three players.
Team India retained the spinners Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal and Axar Patel who will give the Kiwis a hard time. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will also play a key role with a new ball.
On the other side, New Zealand’s Tom Latham was the leading run-getter for New Zealand in ODI’s when the team last toured India in 2016. Kane Willamson also
batted well in that series and he even top-scored for his side in the ICC Champion Trophy 2017. While the Kiwis will look to these two to score the big runs, Bowling will depend on Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner. Tim Southee was leading wicket-taker for New Zealand in the last tour against India. New Zealand’s middle order will depend on Ross Taylor who is recently out of form and if New Zealand are to win the series Ross Taylor has to play some good innings.
Here are the expected squads of both the teams for today’s match
