World No.4 Kidambi Srikanth became the 1st Indian to win 4 Super Series in a single year. He defeated Japan’s Kenta Nishimato 21-14,21- 13 in finals to achieve this feat. Srikanth struggled in early part of the game, with Japanese taking 9-5 lead. Srikanth made a strong comeback to force the lead at 11-9 , from where he dominated the whole game and won the title in straight two sets.
25 year old Indian lad had won 3 titles this year previously at Indonesia, Australia & Denmark. It took mere a half an hour for the Indian to register a grand and historic win in the final and clinch the title.
Srikanth has now surpassed Saina Nehwal as the only Indian to have won 4 Super Series titles in the same year itself, Nehwal has 3 in her bucket list. which she had clinched all three of them in the year 2010.
The best thing is that, he is likely to rise to a career-best number two in world ranking that will come out this Thursday. He is now only the 4th player after Lin Dan , Lee Chong Wei and Chen Long who have won 4 or more super-series finals in a single year.
Indian coach Pulela Gopichand regarded his victory as a phenomenal achievement. “He is in such fine form for the last few months that I expected him to win the World title. I always said that if he plays to his potential he has the ability to win many more titles,” he added.
