A big star of Barcelona will be missing when they clash with Valencia…

Barcelona registered a 3-0 victory against Leganes which keeps them on the top of the table with 34 points. They are well above second-placed Valencia who are 7 points behind Barcelona with a game in hand.

Valencia will welcome Barcelona on Monday, Nov. 25 in an important league encounter.

Both Barcelona and Valencia are unbeaten in the league this season-as of now.

For Barcelona, a big credit for this goes to their rock-solid defense. Barcelona have conceded the least numbers of goals this season and they must thank their center-backs- Pique and Umtiti and their Great German wall- Ter Stegan.

Things have changed now for Barcelona as their star defender Gerard Pique is set to miss next weekend’s top of the table clash with Valencia after being booked against Leganes.

The defender was shown the yellow card after just 28 minutes, his fifth of the season which brings about an automatic one-match ban.

Another of their defenders, Javier Mascherano is injured and cannot replace Pique.

This leaves Barcelona with a gaping hole in their rock-solid defense.

On paper, its easy to fill that hole. They have Thomas Vermaelen as their substitute center back. But the Barcelona Boss has not shown how much faith he has in him. Whether it’s to do with his injury history or his ability, what’s certain is that the Belgian has not played.

But it’s not ruled out that Lucas Digne can partner with Umtiti. Even though he’s a left-back, he has played there before and it looks like Valverde backs Digne more than Vermaelen.

There are very negligible chances that he would dip down into his B Team for such an important clash even though he has some excellent options out there, namely- David Costas and Jorge Cuenca, although we might see one of them on the bench.

But it’s not all bad news. Last season, Barcelona also went to Mestalla without Pique. The defender was injured and could not play. Nor could Jordi Alba. Umtiti and Mascherano played, flanked by Sergi Roberto and Digne. And Barça won 2-3, thanks to a stoppage-time Messi penalty.
