The Derby Day Brawl

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are now both 10 points adrift from the league leaders Barcelona in what was a thrilling game ending with none of the teams being on the scoresheet. All the excitement and drama resulted in a goalless draw and a  broken nose with Sergio Ramos being subbed off by Nacho in the halftime break.

Not sure if Atletico Madrid were playing a wrestling match or football as they conceded 21 fouls and 6 yellow cards throughout the match. Sergio Ramos was left with a suspected broken nose after he clashed with Lucas Hernandez and is set to miss out a few matches. Quite surprisingly, the best possible chance came in the third minute when Angel Correa missed a fabulous chance to take the lead. Atletico Madrid were deadly in the first 20 minutes where they stopped Real Madrid from gathering possession but they ultimately succumbed to real’s tactics after the first quarter of the match where Toni Kroos had the opportunity to score the first goal of the match after displaying a beautiful 1-2 passing along with Cristiano Ronaldo but he failed to finish it. Cristiano Ronaldo failed to imitate his famous freekick goal which he scored against Atletico in 2012 after Stefan Savic fouled Toni Kroos outside some distance from the penalty box. Real Madrid went on to dominate the match with 65% possession but lacked the quality when it came to finishing the chances.

The major breakthrough came in the second half when Diego Simeone brought on Kevin Gameiro and Fernando Torres on the field, the duo quickly capitalized the situation leading to a chip shot by Kevin Gameiro which was cleared by Raphael Varane inches outside the goal line. Luka Modric and Isco were the key players for Real Madrid in this match, Isco had some fine magical moments with the ball and Modric being the connecting link of all the passing from defence to attack.

This season is continuing to doom Real Madrid with the critics back on their job as Cristiano Ronaldo has only scored 1 LaLiga goal this season, Karim Benzema and Antoine Griezmann were woeful in the match as they were hardly seen creating any chances or taking them throughout the match. Both the teams will now be looking to narrow the gap as Barcelona take on Valencia in the next match.
