All you need to know about Champions League Round-of-16 draw

With UEFA Champions League ready for the knockout stage, SportsJoint updates you with every information you need to know ahead of the round-of-16 draw.

The Group stage of the 17-18 Champions League is over and we have 16 teams that have qualified for the next stage of the tournament after a tough fight in the Group stage.

Which teams have qualified for the next round?

Group winners: Manchester United (ENG), Paris (FRA), Roma (ITA), Barcelona (ESP), Liverpool (ENG), Manchester City (ENG), Beşiktaş (TUR), Tottenham Hotspur (ENG)

Group runners-up: Basel (SUI), Bayern München (GER), Chelsea (ENG), Juventus (ITA), Sevilla (ESP), Shakhtar (UKR), Porto (POR), Real Madrid (ESP)

Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are the two big teams that will be missing the round of 16 after failing to qualify for the last 16.

When is the draw for the Last 16?

The draw for the round-of-16 takes place at 4:30 PM IST (11:00 AM Britain Time) on 11th December in Nyon, Switzerland.

How does the Champions League round-of-16 draw work?

The draw will be a seeded draw and the winners of the Eight groups will be seeded and the eight runners-up will be unseeded.

  1. The teams from the same country cannot be drawn against one another.
  2. The Group winner is drawn against the team which finished second in their respective group and vice-versa.
  3. A team cannot be drawn against a team it faced in the group stages.
  4. Seeded group winners will be away in the round of 16 first legs on 13/14 and 20/21 February and at home in the return matches on 6/7 and 13/14 March.
