The Ballon d’Or 2017 is all set to take place in Paris on 7th December 2017 and Ronaldo and Messi are on the shortlist yet again. The duo has been sharing this title for the last 9 years with Messi having won the title for record 5 times while Ronaldo having bagged the title 4 times is not much behind. This year, with much certainty we can say that the title will again be won by any one of the two as no other player on the shortlist has had an exceptional year.

Let’s take the debate further and check out who’ll come out on top.

Lionel Messi

Analysis of Messi’s 2017 exploits shows that he has scored 52 goals for the club and country combined in the calendar year 2017. He also has 14 assists in the pocket while boasting a conversion rate of 23.41.

The year 2017 was an individual brilliance for the Barcelona talisman as the numbers above show. He also bagged his 4th European Golden Shoe last month which shows how good he was.

He’s already scored 11 in La Liga in just 7 games which have helped Barcelona stand 7 points clear of their arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Despite his outstanding performances, Lio could not get his hands on any trophy other than the Copa Del Rey.

He gave his all to drag his team to the finishing line but he could not due to their team’s poor form, coordination, tactics.

Cristiano Ronaldo

FC Barcelona v Real Madrid - Supercopa de Espana: 1st Leg

Analysis of Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2017 exploits shows that he has scored 49 goals in 56 appearances for his club and country at a conversion rate of 18.69%. He has 13 assists in hand trailing by just one to his competitor.

Cristiano Ronaldo just won the FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player Award which strengthens his contendership for the Ballon d’Or 2017. Though he is going through a slump in form recently, 2017 has been an exceptional year for him with Real Madrid winning the UEFA Champions League and the La Liga and him being an integral part of his team’s success in all these competitions.

The hat-tricks against Bayern and Atletico and a brace against Juventus are some of the proofs of his heroics in this calendar year.

The Result

In 2017, Lionel Messi was better than Cristiano Ronaldo individually as what Ronaldo did on selected occasions, Messi was doing day in day out but the department where he lacked was the collective success, where Ronaldo outshines everyone. Having already won FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player award Ronaldo is a stronger contender for the Ballon d’Or 2017
