Last summer, United appeared set to land Griezmann to Old Trafford but the player decided to stay and sign a new contract when Atletico were hit with a transfer ban by FIFA.
The Frenchman had rated his chances of joining Manchester United as a ‘six out of ten’ but the United Manager, Jose Mourinho signed Romelu Lukaku instead and since then the interest of the Red Devils have cooled down.
This has provided Barcelona with a lead advantage who now, as reported, have reached an agreement with Griezmann to land him at Camp Nou next season.
According to Miguel Delaney of The Independent, “senior figures” at the Manchester and Madrid sides believe the Frenchman is edging closer to the Camp Nou, with Barcelona “very far ahead” in the race for the player.
According to Radio de Catalana, “Barcelona have already closed the Atletico forward. The Frenchman will arrive in the summer and the club will not pay his €100m release clause. It will be compensated in an economical agreement.”
Manchester United now fear that Barcelona have tied up a firm deal with the striker and have thus started to look for other options.
