Iyer registers maiden fifty, shows promising signs

Shreyas Iyer, the rising Indian player today here at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali registered his maiden ODI fifty and was a little unfortunate to convert it into the next achievement of a maiden ODI ton, having fell short of just 12 runs. India scored a huge pile of 392 runs on the scoreboard with just 4 wickets. Rohit Sharma scored his 3rd double-hundred in the ODIs.

Iyer’s smashing innings of 88 runs came from just 70 balls including 9 boundaries and 2 hard-strucked sixes with an amazing strike rate just above 125. He along with the Star of the Match, the hit-man aka Rohit Sharma who scored his 3rd double-hundred in ODIs kept the strike rate ticking and increasing over by over and consequently built the pressure on the Lankan bowlers, especially on Lakmal who single-handedly brought down the Indian batting-lineup in the previous encounter of the series where the hosts suffered a huge embarrassing loss.

Iyer came on the crease in the 22nd over after the successful partnership of 115 runs of the openers Sharma & Dhawan. Iyer over by over managed to sweep off singles and doubles and tried to rotate the strike and pass it on to already established player on the crease, Rohit. After Rohit’s half-century, Iyer came off in style and showed some brilliant knock from the bat, hitting off some boundaries with enthusiasm found only in the young blood of talent.

Meanwhile in the 38th over, Iyer finished his maiden ODI fifty, and received a standing appreciation from the dressing room and a pat on the back by the skipper itself on the crease. Shreyas, overwhelmed by the joy and happiness flung his bat high in the air and showed his gratitude to the fans and the audience. Having successfully scored a fifty and seeing his partner on the other side scored his 16th century, Iyer didn’t saw back from then onwards and went on to hit some hard balls over the rope for boundaries and sixes.

Iyer got out unfortunately in the 46th over, but still this young lad managed to sweep not only boundaries but also our hearts from us. Hoping for more amazing show and display of cricket from this player.
