Manchester United’s Legend and all-time leading goal scorer claims that there was one United squad which was better than the current Pep Guardiola’s side.
Rooney who played 13 years for the devils said “There have been so many great teams throughout the years in the Premier League. This City team needs to win trophies and need to do it for longer period to be in that bracket.”
Asked the best ever team in Premier League history, he said “The best ever? I would go with the Man United from 2008!”
Many United fans would agree with him as 2008 was unarguably one of the best year for United. That was the time, under Sir Alex Ferguson at which Manchester United were at their peak and were among the best teams from Europe. They won the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, Community Shield and FIFA Club World Cup.
The 2008 team comprised of many great players, starting from the Goalkeeper, Van Der Stark was one of the best at that time. Vidic, Evra and Ferdinand were impenetrable as a defence unit. In midfield, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Micheal Owen sprinkled their magic on the field and with forwards like Cristiano Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez, the squad had a lot of firepower in the front as well.
Meanwhile, Rooney who now plays for Everton also added “I don’t think that they (Manchester City) can go unbeaten. They have done incredibly well with the run they have been on but the Premier League is so difficult, especially now with Christmas Period coming up”
“I think in previous years it has been two teams and you went in knowing you would win most of the other games but now there are five or six other teams that can all beat each other and I’m sure one of those games Man City will get beaten.”
