Carabao Cup Quarter-Final: Bristol City stunned Manchester United!

It was a day Bristol City fans will remember for many years to come as they defeated the reigning champions Manchester United and booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

United fans were overwhelmed to see Pogba and Ibrahimović starting the match but in the first half, United lacked the intensity and failed to create chances.

Bristol City took the lead with Joe Bryan scoring in the 51st minute but it took United just 7 minutes to equalize as Ibrahimović took a free kick and scored a stunning goal. After Zlatan’s goal, the devils had many opportunities to score but somehow Bristol City were able to hold them.

When everyone was thinking that the match will be heading into the extra time, in the last moments of stoppage time, Korey Smith bursts into United’s penalty area and scores the winning goal.

Mourinho blamed many players of United for their lack of attitude and even praised Bristol City for their performance. He said, “We hit the post twice before they scored but they played brilliantly, they fought like it was the game of their lives and I think a beautiful day for football. A team from a lower division won and getting into semi-final.”

Mourinho also added,” I don’t want the fact that I say they were a bit lucky to be the main thing of it, the main thing is they won and they fought hard”

If United had won this match, the football fans around the world could have had the opportunity to watch a thrilling Manchester derby in semi-finals. With this win, Bristol City also became the first lower division team to beat 4 teams of Premier League consecutively.

Bristol City would now face the Pep Guardiola’s side in semi-finals on 8th January.
