Even without its ace shuttler Saina Nehwal who was not able to play her first match due to an ankle injury, Awadhe Warriors defeated the defending champions Chennai Smashers with a score of 4-3 at N.C Bordoloi Indoor Stadium. The Warriors won Three out of Five matches including the Trump match against the Smashers.
Tang Chun Man Christina Pederson defeated World number 5 British Couple, Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock with the score of 10-15,15-5,15-12 in the opening mixed doubles match.
The Second Match of the Tie was played between P. Kashyap and Daniel Farid. It was a Trump Match for Warriors and Kashyap didn’t disappoint the team. The match ended up with the score 15-12,15-8. This Trump match extended the lead to 3-0 in favor of Warriors.
World Number Three Kidambi Srikanth overcame 24th ranked France player Brice Leverdez’s challenge to record a 15-12,15-13 win. With the end of this match, the remaining two contest seemed like a mere formality since the Warriors took the 4-0 lead over the defending champions.
At last, the Warriors came as a winner in their fourth match. Smasher’s Men doubles pair Chris Adcock and Yang Lee defeated Hendra Satiwan and Chin Chung with the score of 11-15,15-10,11-15. Adcock and Lee after winning their first set lost their second set due to some common errors and loose shot, but won the deciding set which made the overall points table look like 4-1.
Earlier in the match, everyone was excited to see PV Sindhu and Sania Nehwal face to face, but because of Sania’s ankle injury, it became the dream for all the badminton fans.The fifth match was a Trump Match for Chennai Smashers, which was played in between PV Sindhu and SU Rao.It was an easy match for PV Sindhu and the match ended with the score of 15-10,15-9.This added +2 points to the points tally in favor of the Smashers.So, at last, the Tie ended up with the score of 4-3 with Awadhe Warriors as a winner.
