Top 5 Players who were not retained

It is the IPL season and the teams are gearing up with their squad enhancements before the tournament. This year’s auction will see an overhaul in the teams. To read the rules of retention click here.

Teams have released the names of players that they’ll  be retaining this year, and quite a few major names were missing. Let’s take a look at the top 5 players, who were excluded from the lists:

1. Shikhar Dhawan

The solid and aggressive left-hander has been one of the prominent members of the Indian limited overs team. His partnership with Rohit Sharma at the top of the order was the main reason for Team India’s success in the past year.

Shikhar has been Sunrisers’ best batsman alongside David Warner and the main player in their Champion season in 2016. He averages over 32 in the IPL at a strike-rate of over 120.

Any team would be interested in the quality he provides at the start of the innings. He is expected to go for heavy money in this year’s auction.

2. Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir has lead the Kolkata side to two title seasons in 2012 and 2014. Gautam has been the cornerstone of KKR’s batting over the years and their leading run-scorer.

His exclusion from the team is one of the most shocking decisions by the KKR management. Manish Pandey and Morne Morkel were also some big names that who not retained.

With Gautam not being in the International squad for a long time, he might not go much money in the auction.

3. David Miller

David Miller has made his mark as one of the best finisher in the world in the shortest format of the game. Buying him was Kings XI’s best decision in all the years and he has proven that in the time he has been there.

But letting him go, doesn’t seem a good decision. AT ALL. Miller is the only batsman who has been scoring any runs in the Punjab’s dreadful seasons and Punjab might not find his replacement knowing Punjab’s weak performance in the auctions.

4. Chris Gayle

No adjective is there to describe the firepower of Christopher Hendricks Gayle. Anything that comes in the way of the Gayle Storm gets destroyed and we have witnessed it again and again.

Chris Gayle found his feet at RCB after being a flop at the KKR in the early seasons. With five centuries, he is now IPL’s most successful batsman. And with Virat and ABD in the same batting order, the RCB top order was a force to be scared of. But now after his exclusion, every team would be trying to get their hands on him in the auction and he’ll go for a pretty high price.

Yuzvendara Chahal and Mitchell Starc were some other shock exclusions from the team.

5. Dwayne BravoDwayne-Bravo-of-Chennai-Super-Kings-celebrates-fall-of-a-wicket21.jpg

The Champion, DJ Bravo, is hands down the tournament’s best all-rounder. His slower deliveries and his power-hitting make a deadly combination.
With him being out of the National side, he has been playing T20 cricket all over the world.

He had been one of the players that made up the nucleus of the Champion CSK side, and so his exclusion comes as a shock.

With a deadly slow yorker and a hazardous bat swing, he can fit in any team’s setup.
