Indian skipper Virat Kohli has been penalized for misbehaving with the on-field umpire Michael Gough in the test that concluded today.
The incident happened on the third day when the match resumed after the rain. In the 25th over Kohli continuously kept complaining about the damp ball due to the wet outfield.When his wish wasn’t fulfilled, in frustration he threw the ball on to the ground in an “aggressive manner”, according to ICC.
Due to this incident, he has been penalized by 25% of his match fees. Kohli pleaded guilty to the Level 1 charge and accepted the sanction imposed by ICC match referee Chris Broad.
Kohli has also received the first demerit point after the introduction of these merit and demerit points by the ICC. If he receives three more within 24 months then he’ll get the suspension point due to which he’ll be suspended from one Test or 2 ODIs, whichever comes first.
