The Proteas sealed the series and took an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the 3 match series by defeating the visitors by 135 runs. Ngidi turned out to be the nightmare for Indians who took a 6-fer in his debut match.
The debutant also clinched MoM for his excellent spell which led India to a series loss after 9 successive series win. This also turned out to be Kohli’s first series loss as a captain.
It was never going to be easy chasing anything above 250 on day 5 at this surface which eventually turned out to be. It became further more difficult with the deadly spell from Ngidi(39-6) and Rabada(47-3).
Even Indian batters didn’t show character and barely 4 players managed to cross two figure mark and the team bundeled out to a mere 151 before lunch on the final day.
The 21 year old debutant took 7 wickets in the match which included one in the first innings. Ngidi took the wickets of Rahul, Kohli, Pandya, Ashwin, Shami and Bumrah in the 2nd Innings and Parthiv in the 1st. Ngidi cherished the dream wicket of captain Kohli who was found plumb off his perfect in-swinger.
It all started with the poor selection with the Indian skipper removing the in-form Bhuvi for Ishant. Another exclusion of Rahane in the playing XI took everyone by surprise.
KL Rahul who came as a replacement for Dhawan couldn’t even capitalise on the opportunity thrown upon him. Pujara became the first Indian cricketer to be run out twice in the same test.
Talking about the Man of the Moment, Ngidi has just 7 First Class match experience. The debutant has already played 3 T20I against SL in Jan 2017. He was also adjudged as MoM in his debut T20I.
Ngidi seems to be the big find for South African cricket. He also became the second African after L Klusener to take more than 5 wickets in a debut match against India.
The series loss is again a big blow for Kohli and Co. who have been performing almost clinical at Home, India has always found it difficult to perform in the foreign turf. They have never won a Test series against SA in SA and it continues to be.
India will look to play the third test match for pride whereas Proteas would look for whitewash. Proteas will join India’s test tally with 118 points once they win the third test scheduled on Wednesday. However, India will still remain intact on top with Proteas been just some decimal points shy off them.
