Dhananjaya de Silva was called in as replacement for Kushal Perara, who suffered a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka-Zimbabwe clash on Sunday. Since Perara is unfit to play the ODI tri-series, his availability for the upcoming test series is also not confirmed.
Kushal had played a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s first win in the tournament by scoring 49 runs. Sri Lankan Cricket has not yet decided if he will stay with the team. Sri Lanka are now in a deep trouble as the former captain Angelo Mathews has also been ruled out of the remaining tour due to a hamstring injury.
Dhananjaya has played 17 ODIs scoring 335 runs with a poor average of 24. But his stats don’t speak for the talent and potential that he holds. His last appearance in ODI was against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy.
Sri Lanka will play Bangladesh on Thursday after which the team for the finals will be decided. A two matches test series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will start on 31 January, followed by two T-20s.
