As the transfer window shuts tonight at 23:00 pm GMT (3:30 AM IST), we look at the possible transfers that could still happen.
This January’s transfer window has been the best in recent years in terms of the big-name players moving to different clubs. Not since the winter of 2011, when Torres moved from Liverpool to Chelsea, a transfer window has provided so many big blockbuster headlines.
The window started with a big money move of Coutinho to Barcelona for £140 million and the signing of Virgil Van Dijk by Liverpool for £75 million. Arsenal and Manchester United swapped their players Alexis Sanchez and Mkhitaryan. Manchester city signed Laporte for £57 million.
With less than 24 hours remaining, there are still several major deals to be finalized involving some of the biggest clubs.
Lucas Moura to Tottenham
Lucas Moura is all set to join Tottenham Hotspurs reportedly for a fee of £25 million.
The Brazilian’s unhappy spell at PSG is about to end. He has made just 6 appearances so far this season and has fallen down the pecking order at PSG since the summer signing of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Manchester United were also interested in getting the Brazilian before they moved for Sanchez, while Nantes offered him the chance to remain at the Ligue 1 but eventually Tottenham now appear to have won the race.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Arsenal
Since the last 10 days, rumors of Aubameyang to Arsenal have been on the top of the list but now it seems that the rumors are going to be true as Arsenal and Dortmund have agreed for a fee for the Gabonese striker and the announcement can be made anytime soon.
Aubameyang flew to London on Tuesday and traveled straight to Arsenal’s London Colney training base where he has been given clearance to undertake a medical.
Olivier Giroud to Chelsea
Olivier Giroud is primed to join Chelsea from Arsenal for £17.5m on deadline day, a move that will allow the completion of a chain of transfers that takes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the Emirates Stadium and Michy Batshuayi to Borussia Dortmund.
The 31-year-old’s priority has long been to enjoy greater playing opportunity before the World Cup, having started a solitary top-flight game this season following the £52.7m arrival of his compatriot Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon last summer.
The two London clubs have reached an agreement, initially, Arsenal wanted a fee in the region of £30 million, but in order to complete their Aubameyang deal faster, they had to settle for somewhat around £18 million.
All these deals can be announced anytime before the transfer window shuts. Other than these deals many more deals are set to be completed today. Riyad Mahrez is also set to complete a move to Manchester city after handing a transfer request to Leicester city.
