Lewandowski Is Bayern’s Messi – Matthaus

Lothar Matthaus, ex Bayern Captain, and legend hailed Lewandowski, comparing him to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.

Lewandowski has been exceptional for Bayern netting in 139 times for The Bavarians since he came on from Borussia Dortmund. He has already scored 29 goals in 34 appearances for Bayern this season. No wonder he is the top striker in Bundesliga with 20 goals in 23 appearances with an extraordinary 88 minutes/goal ratio.

Bayern legend Matthaus believes Lewandowski is irreplaceable as he stated

‘Lewy’ makes a difference, he cannot be replaced. Robert is an important figure in Munich like Messi is in Barcelona. However, when Messi gets injured, the image of the Catalan game changes completely. Bayern does not have this problem. Lewandowski is a key player, but the team is not as set up for him as the Real game under Ronaldo or the tactics of PSG under Neymar.

Lewandowski has been Poland’s footballer of the year for 7 consecutive times. He might have been exceptional for Bayern but has not contributed enough to win them a Champions League. Can he carry Bayern towards their 6th Champions League trophy this season?
