The rivalry between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid is one of the greatest rivalries in football. From Atletico Madrid defeating Real Madrid 4-0 to Real Madrid eliminating them in the Champions League, Madrid Derby has produced one of the finest battles in football. Here are few of the players who have played for both Real and Atletico Madrid.

5. Juanfran



Juanfran, one of the best right-backs in the world appeared 6 times for Los Blancos before moving to Espanyol, Osasuna and finally to Atletico Madrid where he won quite a few major trophies including LaLiga, Copa Del Rey, UEFA Supercup, UEFA Europa League only missing out on The Champions League where he missed a crucial penalty in The Champions League final against Real Madrid.

4. Bernd Schuster


Bernd Schuster had a blockbuster of a career where he played for Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Atletico Madrid. He played 2 seasons(1988-89 and 1989-90) for the Los Blancos winning The La Liga in both the seasons along with a Copa Del Rey and Spanish Super Cup. He moved on to Atletico after successful spells at both Real Madrid and Barcelona where he won The Copa del Rey twice. He also managed Real Madrid where he won La Liga in the 2007-08 season and The Spanish Super Cup.

3. Hugo Sánchez


Sanchez played for Atletico before moving to Real Madrid where he won a plethora of trophies. He helped Real Madrid in clinching 5 consecutive league title between 1985 and 1990. Sanchez is considered as a Real Madrid legend as he won 4 consecutive Pichichi trophies which is considered as a record.

2. Raúl González


Raul used to play for Atletico’s youth club until the President decided to shut it down resulting in his move to Real Madrid where he turned into a legend scoring 323 goals for Real Madrid. He ended up winning 6 LaLiga and 3 Champions League Trophy with Real Madrid before moving to Schalke.

1. Santiago Bernabéu


The Heart and Soul of Real Madrid signed up for their rivals Atletico Madrid after he felt that the club was not heading in the right direction although he never officially played a game for them. The former President has the name of the stadium in his honor and is considered one of the biggest personalities to turn Real Madrid into one of the most successful clubs in the history of football.
